Style expert, Elisabeth Kassab says rose shapes and embellishments are popular for this upcoming season, but you can absolutely go with any floral style that suits your vibe. One way to narrow it down is to think about your venue. For example, if you’re getting married in a tropical destination wedding, you might want to choose florals that go with a more jungly type of foliage instead of a chateau-inspired rose.

The season, and in turn, the weather, will inform what kind of dress you’ll pick. In spring, look for soft pastel hues or light, delicate floral patterns. Lightweight fabrics like chiffon, tulle, or lace are great materials to choose for this season.

Summer is a great time for vibrant colors and bold floral patterns, and you’ll definitely want breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, or silk so you’re not overheating.

Fall is a great time to choose warm and earthy or rich jewel tones, and opt for slightly heavier fabrics like satin or velvet, which can also be a great way to play with texture.

For a winter floral wedding dress, gowns that have subtle and cooler toned embellishments would look appropriate and beautiful. You can go for heavier fabrics like brocade, velvet, or thick satin to give you that extra bit of warmth, as well.

One of the most important factors in choosing your floral wedding dress is where you’ll be wearing it. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, go for a classic, timeless floral pattern as it can be worn in any type of venue, Kassab says. “Or you can match your dress to subtle floral arrangements or colors around your venue” to make sure it fits the vibe, she says.

“I would say spring and summer. I love all the Chanel flower detailing we saw on Sofia Richie in her stunning south of France wedding. I think she pretty much nailed the florals and the season,” says Kassab.

However, the romantic option can definitely work for all seasons. Just be sure to pay attention to aspects like the neckline, fabric, and sleeve length when selecting your gown to ensure your floral design keeps you comfortable in whatever season you wed in.

“They are definitely not cheap,” says Kassab. “Because of all the hand detailing and embroidering, floral wedding dresses often need more attention than others. But you can definitely find some in your budget. Anything is possible anywhere from high and low.”

You’ll want to pay close attention to the price while shopping and remember that the more intricate the gown, typically the higher the cost. Luckily, we source from a wide variety of retailers to help brides of all budgets find their dream floral gowns.

“If you’re getting married outdoors, or somewhere garden-esque, that is very on theme to be wearing florals,” Kassab explains. “Or matching your dress to subtle floral arrangements or colors around your venue is beautiful,” she continues.

Just like with any other day-of components, you’ll want to pay attention to your floral accents to ensure they fit the rest of your wedding aesthetic. If your venue is bright, colorful, and garden-inspired, large blooms will fit right in whereas if your space is darker, moodier, or more vintage, a more subtle option, such as floral lace, might feel more appropriate. Ultimately, it depends on your personal preferences and day-of vision.
